Where the heck is Kyoto?

David has been transferred! He is now in Kyoto, Japan serving with the Zone Leader, Elder Williamson. This is what he had to say about his new comp:

"My companion is an absolute stud. I wanted him before transfers and I got him. His name is Elder Williamson. (Looks like Owen Wilson and his voice resembles him even more.) He's a convert (at age 12). From Iowa. Ran Cross country in high school (4th in the state of Iowa!) and runs with me every morning! He's also an incredible missionary. His Japanese is hands down best in the mission among americans because he spent six years before the mission studying it (including a year at BYU) and had a ton of Japanese friends. I will become a better missionary because of his example."

We are so grateful that David is enjoying his companionship and the work. I will get to talk to him on Sunday for Mothers' Day and I can't wait! Here are some shots of his new area:

Kyoto is beautiful in the Springtime (Toji Temple) ...

  3. I have always dreaded the day when I send my little men on a mission, not because I don't want them to, but because I can't stand the thought of being away from them for more than a day! But reading about David, and how much he is loving his mission,it makes me excited for my boys to have those experiences. David is a great guy and a great missionary. He sounds like he is thriving over there. Tell him we are proud of him!

  4. We have been to Kyoto a couple of times and it is a really neat city. My nephew also served in that mission and in Kyoto many years ago. I am sure David will love it there and to have such a neat companion will be a great experience for him. I hope you are enjoying lots of blessings due to his missionary service. I miss those times now that all of our boys are home and beyond that stage. Now it is our turn to go next, in a few more years.
